FDA: recalled Midwest Poultry Services eggs tied to 98 Salmonella illnesses; check cartons for codes P-1950 or 840962

The FDA's ongoing Salmonella Enteritidis investigation linked to shell eggs from Midwest Poultry Services stands at 98 illnesses in 17 states, with 26 hospitalizations and no deaths. The recalled eggs came from Texas farms and were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana; they reached shelves at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, plus smaller outlets in those states and in Mississippi and New Mexico.

Recalled cartons carry plant code P-1950 or 840962 with a Julian date between 157 and 184, and sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17, 2026. Brands include Country Morning, Cal-Maine Sunups, Brookshire's, Simple Truth and Kroger, in sizes from 6 to 60 eggs.

Consumers should throw the eggs away or return them for a refund, and disinfect any surface that touched them. The FDA advisory was last updated in late July and the producer does not account for every illness in the outbreak, so the investigation is still open; the recall remains active.
