Ford recalls 565,691 Broncos: engine-compartment wiring can short and start a fire - free fix, owner letters begin Aug 24

Announced July 20 (NHTSA recall 26V468, Ford 26S55): 565,691 Broncos from model years 2021-2026, built between September 23, 2020 and June 28, 2026, are recalled because the engine-compartment wiring harness can chafe against surrounding parts and expose circuits; a short can then arc, produce heat or sparks, and ignite a fire. Ford has 15 fire-related incident reports and estimates about 1% of the population actually has the defect. Drivers may first notice smoke in the vents or a cluster warning before flames appear from the passenger side of the engine bay.

This recall is now four weeks old and entering its notification phase: dealer notices went out July 23, VINs have been searchable since then, and owner letters mail August 24-28. The action is to check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or call Ford at 1-866-436-7332 rather than wait for the letter, then book the free remedy - dealers install protective covering on the harness.
